"Autism Spectrum Disorders"
An evening with Dr. Robin Rumsey

OAutism is a complex developmental disability that typically appears during the first three years of life and affects a person’s ability to communicate and interact with others. Autism is defined by a certain set of behaviors and is a "spectrum disorder" that affects individuals differently and to varying degrees. The latest statistics show that autism affects 1 in 150 children and 1 in 94 boys.

Dr. Robin Rumsey will describe the identification of autism spectrum disorders, what is known about possible causes, epidemiology, increasing rates in ASD, treatments, and what is being done at the University of Minnesota to try and answer some of the many questions that remain. Dr. Rumsey is a Pediatric Neuropsychologist and assistant professor in the Autism Spectrum Disorders Program in the division of Pediatric Clinical Neuroscience at the University of Minnesota.
